A Storm That Changed Everything

A Net System Must Release Hail As The Load Builds—Or It Will Collapse.

We realized protection wasn’t optional. Sunlight and fruit quality had to come first.

In 2020, a catastrophic hailstorm wiped out 90% of our founder’s apple crop. Insurance became unreliable, and climate change brought more frequent, severe storms. It became clear: growers needed a solution they could trust—one that didn’t just protect, but preserved the quality of their fruit.

Our Story

Born From Necessity. Built By Growers.

In 2020, our founder—a third-generation Nelson apple grower—suffered a catastrophic hailstorm that destroyed 90% of the crop.  It was a devastating blow.  And as insurers began withdrawing from the NZ market or hiking premiums to unworkable levels, it became clear that growers would need to take protection into their own hands.

Hail damage has long been a serious threat to New Zealand apple crops.  But with climate change, these storms have become more frequent and severe, causing significant financial losses and affecting fruit quality.  The unpredictable weather patterns and intense hail events now demand a robust, practical solution that not only protects fruit but preserves crop performance.

After the 2020 storm, we did a deep dive into available systems—studying every crop protection solution on the market.  We compared their strengths and weaknesses, and began redesigning our own.  Our goal: build a system that incorporated the best features, dropped the unnecessary ones, and actually worked for NZ apple growers.
